It’s an old, old story. Nun removes clothing, nun gets on her knees, nun fondles crucifix with her tongue. Where’s the happy ending? Wait, that IS the happy ending. This looks like it could be The Story of O with papal uniforms….now that’s a film begging to be made.
The Story of O is an erotic classic--it was anonymously published in the 1950s and it wasn’t until 40 years later that author Pauline Reage revealed she was the name behind the eroticism. She wrote the book in response to her lover’s assertion that erotica couldn’t possibly be written effectively by a woman.
The Story of O is very concerned with bondage and discipline…and this edition, illustrated by Valentina creator Guido Crepax, is chock full of the kinds of imagery you’d expect–but lovingly rendered in a way contemporary artists drool over just as much as bondage fans. Crepax has a style that’s been imitated but seldom equaled. His work on The Story Of O is a must-read for anyone interested in erotica from the 50s and 60s.
If you liked de Sade, and even if you didn’t, the Story of O graphic novel illustrated by Guido Crepax is an excellent read–S&M at its finest.
